Maharashtra witnesses unseasonal rains; IMD issues yellow alert in these districts

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall for the next two days, Wednesday, December 29, and Thursday, December 30.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall for the next two days, Wednesday, December 29, and Thursday, December 30.

This came a day after multiple districts of Maharashtra witnessed unseasonal rainfall on Tuesday evening, December 28.

On Tuesday, Ahmednagar, Akola, Amravati recorded hailstorms, thunderstorms, and lightning associated with strong winds and rain. With this, Vidarbha recorded 62 mm rains the post-monsoon period between October 1 and December 27, reports stated.

Later, the IMD issued orange alerts for Amravati, Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara and Gondia districts. Moreover, the department has also issued a yellow alert with forecast of thunderstorms with lightning at one or two places is very likely in Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli for today, December 29.

No cold wave conditions are likely to develop in the state till the end of this week. However, the minimum temperature is likely to be above normal in Vidarbha in the coming days.

Currently, a western disturbance seen as a cyclonic circulation is over Rajasthan, north Pakistan and its neighbourhood. Under its influence, hail, thunderstorms and lightning are likely in Vidarbha in the next 24 hours.
