The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the possibility of rains in the city today (Wednesday), June 15 and tomorrow (Thursday), June 16.

Elaborating further, Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai, has predicted generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms for the city in the next 24 hours.

The weather department said that Mumbai and its suburbs may receive light rainfall for the next 24 hours and there is a possibility of occasional intense spells.

On the other hand, it has also stated that there is no active monsoon spell expected in the city till at least June 20 in Mumbai despite the onset of the southwest monsoon.

Meanwhile, this comes after the IMD declared the onset of southwest monsoon on June 10. However, the city did not receive much rain as there are variations which occur sometimes since the last few days, especially from Sunday, June 12.

Owing to this, the temperature has further increased in the city. IMD's Santacruz observatory recorded maximum and minimum temperature at 34.4 and 28.5 degrees Celsius with 71 per cent relative humidity. Meanwhile, Colaba observatory recorded maximum and minimum temperature at 33.2 and 24 degrees Celsius with 87 per cent relative humidity.

Whereas on Tuesday, June 14, the minimum temperature recorded in Santacruz was 25.8 °C and the maximum was 34.4 °C, also the relative humidity was at 79 per cent. Colaba experienced a minimum temperature of 26.4 °C and a maximum temperature of 32.5 °C with a relative humidity of 78 per cent.

After the light rain spells in the last week, the daytime temperature had dropped to from 35 degrees Celsius to 33.2 degrees Celsius

Moreover, IMD has mentioned that monsoon has also arrived in Goa, the Konkan belt and in few parts of Gujarat. Ratnagiri received light rainfall on Monday, and by 16 June, there are expectations of more rainfall in the Konkan region. A warning has also been issued for thunderstorms in the Marathwada region for today.

According to the data, Mumbai has recorded 79.8mm of rain, indicating a deficit of -65.5mm so far this month. The normal rainfall for the month, as per IMD’s long-period average, is 505mm.

In June last year, the city received a total of 967.7mm of rain, making it the highest rainfall received during the month in six years. 706mm of rain was recorded in the first 12 days of the month alone.
