Mumbaikars may get soon get some relief from the scorching heat as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast unseasonal rains accompanied by light thunderstorms are expected to lash the city in the next 48 hours.

Mumbaikars may get soon get some relief from the scorching heat as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast unseasonal rains accompanied by light thunderstorms are expected to lash the city in the next 48 hours.

Owing to this, the weather department has issued a yellow alert in Mumbai and Thane for today, April 27.

IMD official Sushma Nair said, "There are some indications of rain, as there is a line of discontinuity from interior Maharashtra, so rain with hail and lightning is likely over parts of Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra, while hail is likely over western parts."

"A yellow alert has been issued as a precaution, but there is nothing to worry about," she added.

The unseasonal rains are likely to bring down the temperature by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the coming days. Moreover, due to this, the city is likely to experience cloudy skies in the afternoon and evening.

On Wednesday, April 26, the maximum temperature in the city recorded at Mumbai's regional meteorological department (RMC), Santacruz, was 33.3 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was 25.2 degrees Celsius. On the other hand, Colaba observatory recorded the maximum and minimum temperature at 32.7 and 25.4 degrees Celsius respectively.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, April 25 and Wednesday, April 26, light showers were witnessed in Vidarbha area of Maharashtra.
