Not too long ago, we spoke about delayed winter chills hitting Mumbai in late-January. The Indian Meteorological Department or IMD has now mentioned that winter spells can be expected to continue further as we head into February.

The Met department also mentioned that the maximum temperatures recorded in Colaba and Santacruz were 26.5 degrees and 26.8 degrees respectively. Today, the minimum temperatures are expected to touch 14 degrees, the department added. This is despite minimum temperatures of 20 degrees and 19.4 degrees recorded by the observatories recently.

Deputy Director-General (Western Region) of the Indian Meteorological Department, KS Hosalikar said, "Mumbai's day-time maximum temperature has gone almost 4-5 degrees below normal, as forecast. The trend will continue with Thursday morning minimum temperatures. The chill was felt throughout Wednesday. Morning walkers and all early starters for Thursday must take care." There was a whopping six degree drop in the temperature between Tuesday and Wednesday!

Mumbaikars have been waiting for winter since December while it has been playing a cat and mouse game with the residents. But with winter finally arriving, residents are recommended to wear thermal clothing if necessary, or simply enjoy the chill which the city has been desperately waiting for.

The Met Department has specified that the dip in temperatures on Thursday will occur during the night, so be sure to brace yourselves.

While this is a good weather for a nice stroll on the Marine Drive or to indulge in bhajji and samosas but it is also the weather where people can fall sick easily. The sudden unexpected drop in temperature can also have its downside and can result in people catching cold or flu. So it is advised that people take good care of the health, and have food that can naturally boost the immunity of the body and yes drink lots of water!
