Mumbai has been waiting for the onset of Monsoon for a while now. However, since the onset of monsoon, Mumbai has not witnessed any significant rainfall activity. Mumbaikars are waiting eagerly for rains and relief from the sultry weather condition. This year the wait is turning out to be longer than usual.

As per Skymet, there has been few short is spells of rain over Mumbai and suburbs in the last couple of days. But these rain activities failed to give much-needed relief. In its forecast for the city, Skymet shares, " We expect rain activities to increase, but this increase will be gradual. There may be scattered rain activities over Mumbai and service on June 28. Thereafter, on and off rain and thundershower activities will continue until the first week of July. Rain intensity will be more around July 2nd and 3rd. The flooding rains for which Mumbai is famous, are not expected until the first half of July at least".

So far, the city of Mumbai has recorded around 306 mm rain in the month of June against the monthly average of 493.1 mm. A couple of days earlier too Skymet had shared that there are chances of moderate rainfall covered with one or two intense spells over the city from June 28 to 29. This spell is expected to bring in some relief for the Mumbai.

Although between June 2 and 5 heavy rainfall was witnessed by Mumbai, that is being attributed to the cyclonic storm Nisarga that hit the city with the officials moving thousands of people along the coast to higher ground as the storm approached.
