Amidst the monsoon season across the state, on Monday, September 6, ten gates of the Majalgaon dam in the Beed district of Maharashtra were opened after heavy rains took the water stock to 100 per cent of capacity from 69.23 per cent a day earlier.

According to reports, the gates of the dam, situated on the Sindphana river, a tributary of the Godavari, were opened to a height of two metres.

Meanwhile, earlier on Sunday, September 5, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning for Maharashtra forecasting heavy to very heavy torrential rains with thunderstorms in the state till September 9. Moreover, it stated that the orange alert, which is valid till September 9, has been issued for 4 districts, including Nashik, Pune, Satara, and Ratnagiri.

The meteorological body further reported that “In view of the formation of a low-pressure area over north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours and other associated synoptic features, Maharashtra is very likely to experience an active rainfall spell during next 4-5 days, Enhanced rainfall is expected over the region with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Konkan,”
