Mumbai's minimum temperature dips, air quality deteoriates

The IMD recorded the maximum temperature of 30.2 degrees Celsius and 28.6 degree Celsius respectively at Santacruz and Colaba. The minimum temperature at the Santacruz observatory dipped to 21 degree Celsius and 21.5 at the Colaba observatory.

On Tuesday, December 15, Mumbai witnessed a dip in the minimum temperature as the clouds cleared up from the skies. Meanwhile the pollution level rose even as day temperatures rose.

Moreover, the dip in minimum temperatures meant that the overall air quality index (AQI) in the city went up from 126 on Monday, December 14, to 152 on Tuesday, December 15, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.

However, the official website of AQI India revealed that the quality of air in Mumbai, in the midnight of Wednesday, December 16, was 321. The most affected area in the city was Worli, as its air quality was marked as Hazardous, with the index showing a score of 965.

On Wednesday, December 16, while the cloud cover cleared during the day, the morning started with a fog-filled sky as both the observatories recorded high humidity levels of 88 per cent as of 8.30 am. The IMD recorded the maximum temperature of 30.2 degrees Celsius and 28.6 degree Celsius respectively at Santacruz and Colaba -- up from 26.9 and 27 degrees Celsius the previous day, December 15.

The minimum temperature at the Santacruz observatory dipped to 21 degree Celsius - down from 22 degrees Celsius the previous day, December 15. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature at Colaba was 21.5 degree Celsius. Apart from that, IMD has stated that the rainfall city and state likely to end on December 16.

The average AQI in the city, over the last seven days, was 161. The lowest average was recorded as 92, while the highest average was 341. Over the last month, i.e. from November 16, 2020, the average AQI was 171, with the lowest at 58, and highest at 455 on November 27, 2020.
