Mumbai's quality of air worsens as the city records highest AQI in seven days

As per AQI India website, most of the areas in the city like Bandra, Borivali, Powai, Vasai and others unhealthy air quality; however, Worli's air quality was marked as Hazardous, with the index of 965.

The weather has changed drastically in several parts of India as the winter sets in. As per records, the temperature has dipped in several parts of Maharashtra and districts have gotten colder than usual. Similar observations have also been made in the state capital, Mumbai. On the other hand, the quality of air has also changed in the city.

Reports published by weather experts indicate that the air quality has significantly deteriorated due to winter. Cities in the north of India have been experiencing this for several months and this has had an adverse impact on the health. Data indicates that several localities in the north have an emergency or hazardous level of air quality, which demands immediate action, as several citizens with respiratory illnesses could suffer due to the change. 

The official website of AQI India reveals that the quality of air in Mumbai, in the midnight on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, was 321. Most of the areas in the city like Bandra, Borivali, Powai, Vasai and others unhealthy air quality; however, Worli's air quality was marked as Hazardous, with the index showing a score of 965. 

During the day, on December 15, Bandra's index score was 468 (hazardous) and Colaba's score recorded as 50 (Good).

The website also suggested that the average AQI in the city, over the last seven days, was 161. The lowest average was recorded as 92, while the highest average was 341. Over the last month, i.e. from November 16, 2020, the average AQI was 171, with the lowest at 58, and highest at 455 on November 27, 2020.

The reason for the same is said to the cyclones along with the basin condition which has formed in the south of Gujrat in the Arabian Sea. The weather in the night on December 16, in Mumbai, was recorded at 25 degrees with an average humidity of 88 per cent.
