Mumbai’s air quality goes from 'poor' to 'moderate'

According to the researchers at SAFAR, due to the winter weather conditions, the air quality is likely to remain in similar range in Mumbai

Mumbai’s air quality goes from 'poor' to 'moderate'

On Wednesday, the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) slipped into the poor category but the air cleared by evening and was back into the moderate category. According to System of Air Quality Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), the city’s overall air quality on Wednesday morning was 201.

Generally, an AQI between 201 and 300 is considered poor and it is advisable for people with heart or lung disease, to reduce heavy exertion in such air quality. However, by evening, the air was clearer and the air quality improved to 196 which is considered as moderate.

Researchers at SAFAR informed that due to the winter weather conditions, the air quality is likely to remain in similar range in Mumbai. 

On Tuesday, Santacruz observatory witnessed a significant dip in the maximum temperature to 32.8 degrees Celsius from 35.6 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, the minimum temperature at both Colaba and Santacruz observatories was around 20 degrees Celsius, nearly one degree below normal.
