On Monday, November 15, Mumbai's air quality index (AQI) reached the seasonal high of 245 which is in the "poor" quality of AQI, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research’s (SAFAR) network of 10 continuous ambient air quality monitoring stations (CAAQMS) across the island city, reported Hindustan Times. 

The Central Pollution Control Board’s states that "poor" air quality can result in “breathing discomfort to most people on prolonged exposure.” Earlier, the air quality had reached the ‘poor’ category on November 5, just after the Diwali festivities, when the AQI touched 215.

Four of the 10 monitoring locations operated by SAFAR across the island city, on Monday depicted significantly worse air quality than Mumbai’s average. Colaba logged the "very poor" category with an AQI of 345. Other locations on Monday in a similar category entail Mazagaon at 325, BKC at 314 and Malad at 306.

On the other hand, Andheri had a "poor" air quality, with an AQI of 259, with those in the "moderate" air quality being Bhandup at 111, Borivali at 149, Chembur at 149, Navi Mumbai at 130 and Worli at 115.

An AQI of 100 to 199 is considered ‘moderate’, 50 to 99 is ‘satisfactory’, below 50 is ‘good’, excess of 200 is ‘poor’, above 300 ‘very poor’, above 400 ‘severe’ and above 500 is considered ‘severe+’, stated the account.
