Mumbai: IMD Predicts Minimum Temperature to Remain Above Normal for the Next 48 Hours

Just as Mumbai witnessed its temperatures drop to just 17.8 degrees Celsius, Wednesday recorded slightly above normal temperatures in the region. The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Santacruz observatory recorded a minimum of 20.8 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 36 degrees Celsius on December 9.

Meanwhile, the IMD said that this Tuesday (Dec 8) was the hottest day in December in six years with temperatures being four degrees above normal. Maximum temperatures in the city have been rising over the past week or so, with the current variation between minimum and maximum temperatures at nearly 16 degrees. 

The Colaba observatory which covers South Mumbai recorded minimum temperatures of 23 degrees Celsius whereas the maximum temperature recorded was 35 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. Authorities said that the minimum and maximum temperatures in the region are 1.7 degrees and 2.7 degrees above normal.

Other parts of Maharashtra witnessed above-normal minimum temperatures on Wednesday. Officials added that the minimum temperature in Mumbai could remain above normal for the next two days. 

With this prediction, the minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to be 21 and 34 to 35 degrees Celsius respectively over a five day period. The IMD said that portions of Marathwada and Central Maharashtra may see a drop in maximum temperature in the coming days. 

Meanwhile, the IMD warned that thunderstorms with a combination of hail are likely at isolated locations in districts of North Madhya Maharashtra on Dec 11 and 12.
