In the last 10 days, temperatures have seen been consistently high, above normal sea level, across Maharashtra, including Mumbai.

Owing to this, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alert along with heatwave warnings in Vidarbha area of state. While there is no heatwave in Mumbai, the citizens may face discomfort as it might get hotter.

According to the weather department, Vidarbha was the hottest region in the country on Thursday, April 28.

Besides, as per India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) monitoring station in Santacruz, Mumbai has seen above normal day temperatures since April 19. Later, it also observed two significant spikes on April 21 and April 24, when the mercury touched 38.9 and 38.5 degrees respectively. With this, Mumbai also witnessed its hottest day of the year so far, and the hottest April day in eight years on April 21.

Meanwhile, Mumbai’s maximum day temperature was 4 degrees above normal at 37°C in IMD’s Santacruz observatory, whereas Colaba observatory recorded 35.2°C on Friday morning, April 29, at 8.30 am. Additionally, the city and some nearby regions may witness mild thunderous activity by May 4.

However, experts have suggested that Mumbai may see some respite from the heat over the weekend, with maximum temperatures expected to dip to 35 degrees Celsius by Sunday, May 1.

Moreover, Matheran and Mahabaleshwar, which are state’s cool retreats and hill stations, also saw maximum temperatures soaring to 38.2°C and 33°C, respectively.
