The meteorological department has forecasted heavy rains in the next 48 hours. Therefore, instructions have been given to the citizens to get out of the house, only if necessary.

The intensity of the low-pressure area formed over the West Bengal region is expected to decrease in the next 48 hours. Therefore, heavy rains have been warned in Maharashtra between September 21 and 23.

According to the meteorological department, torrential rains have started in Palghar, Matheran, Raigad, Thane and Mumbai. It is cloudy in some other places too. Extreme levels of rainfall are expected in Palghar, Thane, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Vidarbha.

Additionally, yellow alerts have been issued in all the districts of the state except Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Buldhana, Kolhapur, Akola, Parbhani and Nanded. In Vidarbha too, an alert has been issued in Amravati, Gondia, Gadchiroli, Yavatmal and Washim districts. Citizens are urged to check the weather before they venture out.

In other developments, lakes that supply drinking water to Mumbai are 99.2% full, mentioned reports. This is believed to be 1% more than what it was a year ago and 1.4% more than what it was two years ago. This is equated to a possible sufficiency in water quantities to meet Mumbai’s requirements throughout the year.
