The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared July as the wettest month across the nation after 2005, as the rainfall recorded during the month was 16.9 per cent higher than normal.

On the other hand, with August approaching and rains getting subdued over the last few weeks, it has come to light that Mumbaikars are likely to face more heat and warmth in the next few days.

As per latest forecast by the IMD Head Scientist and GFS model guidance, Mumbai and Konkan are likely to get rains again from August 5 with strengthening of low level westerlies over west coast.

He further stated that with almost no rains in city for a week, the maximum temperature is running above normal by 2°C.

However, today, August 1, Mumbai and its neighbouring cities see a partly cloudy sky and light rains bringing a slightest respite from the scorching heat and lowering the daytime temperature.

On Monday, August 1, the minimum temperature recorded in Santacruz was 25.8 °C and the maximum was 31.9 °C, with the relative humidity at 84 per cent. Meanwhile, Colaba experienced a minimum temperature of 26.4 °C and a maximum temperature of 32 °C, with a relative humidity of 82 per cent.

Whereas on Sunday, July 31, the minimum temperature recorded in Santacruz was 26.2 °C and the maximum was 31.8 °C, with the relative humidity at 79 per cent. Meanwhile, Colaba experienced a minimum temperature of 26.4 °C and a maximum temperature of 31.6 °C, with a relative humidity of 76 per cent. Besides, the city also witnessed a good air day on Sunday.

According to data from the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), Mumbai recorded a 'good' Air Quality Index (AQI) of 17, while other cities like Delhi, Pune, and Ahmedabad recorded an AQI of 25, 35, and 22, respectively.

Regarding this year's July being the wettest so far since 2005, Hosalikar said the country recorded 327.7mm of rainfall during the month, which is 16.9 per cent higher than normal.
