Mumbai's Maximum Temperature Nears 40°C For 2nd Consecutive Day

With the similar temperature seen on Sunday, March 12, Mumbai became the hottest city in the entire country. It is pertinent to note that a heatwave alert was issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for 5 days, i.e till March 15.

For the consecutive day, Mumbai recorded the highest temperature of the season this year so far at 39.4 degrees on Monday, March 13. This was six degrees above normal.

Temperatures have shown a steady increase throughout the month continued to bake the city. With the similar temperature seen on Sunday, March 12, Mumbai became the hottest city in the entire country.

It is pertinent to note that on March 10, a heatwave alert was issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for 5 days, i.e till March 15.

Though the mercury remains above normal today as well, it is expected to come closer to normal by March 18, when the maximum temperature in Santacruz is forecasted to settle around 33 degrees Celsius.

On both the days, Colaba observatory of IMD recorded a maximum temperature of 35.8 degrees Celsius, which is 4 degrees above normal.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperature recorded today at IMD's Sanatcruz and Colaba were 24.6 and 25.4 degrees Celsius.

Besides, the city on Saturday, March 11, too, had been India’s hottest location as per the official monitoring station with the maximum temperature settling at 38.5 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, despite the receding winter and onset of summer, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Mumbai refuses to improve and hovers between poor to very poor category (250 to 300 levels).

Therefore, on Sunday, March 12, a seven-member committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of additional municipal commissioner Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, the Brihanmumbai Corporation (BMC).
