Another incident of massive fire was reported in Navi Mumbai’s Kharghar hill on Wednesday night, March 16.

According to reports, two fire tenders and a water tanker rushed to the spot. However, there was no way the fire tenders could reach the top, hence, they were trying to douse the flames from the road near Gold course.

The fire on the top of the hill will get doused by its own, a police officer from Kharghar police station said. The reason of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

After nearly 7 hours of efforts by the firefighting team, the blaze was brought under the control at around 2:30 am. As per the Kharghar Fire station, they received the fire call around 7.30 pm on Wednesday.

It has come to light that several such incidents have taken in the past 13 years. On February 19, a similar episode was witnessed as a large stretch of dry grassland caught in the blaze this time. Although fire engines were rushed to the spot, firefighters could not reach atop the hill to douse the flames and used fire beater tools to get the blaze under control. Though the flame was minor, firefighting team could extinguish it in 30 minutes.

Talking in a similar aspect, a Kharghar corporator stated that the only solution to avoid this is chop off the dry grass after monsoon which no one does and some miscreant makes way by putting a small fire in the grass which then spreads rapidly across the hill.

Nobody could stop it despite repeated requests to forest and CIDCO authorities because the jurisdiction of the departments has not been marked properly, she further mentioned.
