As heavy rainfall hit the Thane district over the past couple of days, some riverside regions are witnessing waterlogging. Rivers like Ulhas, Waldhuni, and Kamwari have already reached dangerous levels with water entering the homes of people living in the vicinity.

Consequently, this has led to several people being forced out of their homes in search of safer regions.

Moreover, many areas within Kalyan, including Shahad, Yogi Dham, Bhavani Nagar, Anupam Nagar, Kalyan-Murbad Road, and Gholap Nagar are witnessing flooding due to the overflowing of the Waldhuni river.

In Badlapur, regions surrounding the Ulhas river such as Hendrapada, Valivali, Barraj road, Rayate, and Maharal were found to be submerged. Residents in Bhiwandi also witnessed some waterlogging as the Kamvari river was over capacity, leading to water rushing into people’s homes.

Many people living in ground floor establishments have now moved to higher ground while some have also moved to house colonies as a result of the flooding. Rescue operations are being carried out by the district, civic, and local administrations.

“Water level in Waldhuni river started increasing suddenly on Thursday early morning and water entered into my house. We have shifted into a nearby building,” a resident of Bhavani Nagar said while speaking to TOI. Some people in the region drew comparisons with the floods in July 2019 that caused similar devastation.
