Mumbai saw a hike in daytime temperatures on Sunday, January 16, with the maximum afternoon temperature settling at 32.4 degrees Celsius according to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) observatory in Santacruz, reports stated. This was higher than the 31 degrees Celsius reported the day earlier and marked the city's warmest day since January 5.

On January 5, the daytime temperature had peaked at 31.5 degrees Celsius. The IMD had signalled towards warmer conditions after January 14. According to reports, Sunday was the second consecutive day of "normal" temperatures, after nearly a week of below-normal temperatures in the city.

The below normal temperature in the city was being attributed to the unseasonal rain in Mumbai accompanied by cold air from north India.

According to the IMD's seven-day forecast for the island city, the maximum temperature will be around 32 degrees Celsius for the next week. On the other hand, the minimum temperature will be around 20 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was 19 degrees Celsius on Sunday higher than 18.6 degrees Celsius the previous day.

Since January 13, the minimum temperatures have been at or over the normal, depicts IMD data. Based on accounts, officials have signalled that the rise in temperatures could be in force till at least January 20 after which cooler conditions could settle in.
