The residents of Prajapur Pada have claimed that construction work for the Metro 3 has been ongoing in the village despite the orders from the government to stop it.

According to the tribal families, for the past fortnight, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has been carrying out the work. However, the MMRCL has responded stating that no construction work is underway, but some ramp work of package 7 is being carried out which is unrelated to the construction of the car shed.

Earlier, on the occasion of Rakshabandhan, tribal residents nestled in Aarey Colony, a prominent green lung of Mumbai and the site of a metro car shed, vowed to protect the trees by tying them 'rakhis' which are bands of promise to protect another person or being.

As per reports, residents of Khambacha Pada and Prajapur Pada hamlets along with some members of the Aarey Conservation Group participated in the programme.

Last year, when the BJP was in power, the felling of trees in the Aarey Colony for the upcoming 33-km fully underground Colaba-Bandra-Seepz metro line had triggered a huge outrage which witnessed city-wide protests.

However, after coming to power in November, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had announced a stay on the construction of the metro car shed project in the green lung of the city.
