Mumbai - The residents of Churchgate, Cuff Parade and nearby areas have approached the court to stop the felling of trees for the Metro-3 project. An NGO, Save Trees, has taken the initiative in this regard. The NGO has taken a stand that trees should not be cut for this project till final verdict on this issue is not delivered by the court. Even after this, the work of tree felling in Churchgate area has been started from last week. This has prompted the NGO to take an aggressive stand against this move. The volunteers of this NGO have decided to oppose the employees coming to cut these trees, informed Naina Verma, a member of Save Trees. The NGO had received information that a group of civic employees is coming to cut the tree in Cuff Parade area on Tuesday. They had prepared themselves to oppose this move but the action was not carried out on Tuesday. The NGP would not allow tree felling until court orders, said NGO member Ruchir Bansal. The issue is likely to gather steam in the coming days.
