Mumbai - Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured Save Tree group that adequate measures will be undertaken to avoid cutting trees in order to set up carshed depot. A committee will be organised who will take the decision regarding the cutting of trees. Around 5,000 trees will be axed under the Metro-3 scheme.
To the announcement of Fadnavis, Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director (MMRC) stated, it is hard to avoid trees being axed. We will have to cut down trees for the smooth functioning of Metro scheme or else we will have to hold or cancel the project.
This came as a shock for Save Tree group, Jhoru Bathena commented on the statements of Ashwini Bhide, we were quite confident and positive after our meeting with Chief minister, that tree will not go under the axe. But in today's MMRC meeting there was no decision taken in regard with that. We will knock the door's of the court to save trees.
