Popular Indian fashion designer Wendell Rodricks passes away at his home in Goa. He was 59. A leading daily spoke to his family and confirmed the news about his demise at his Colvale residence. BJP MLA Nilakanth Halarnkar who is also a friend of the designer confirmed his death and stated that he passed away at 5.45 p.m on Wednesday due to a long-term illness.

Minutes after his death, Goa health minister Vishwajit Rane took to Twitter to share his condolences with a message that read, “Deeply saddened to hear about the sudden demise of my very good friend and designer, Wendell Rodricks. His excellency in his work & skills are irreplaceable & shall always be cherished. We will truly miss him. My heartfelt condolences to his family & dear ones.”

Born in 1960, Wendell was known for his designs for which he was conferred the Padma Shri in 2014. Besides being a designer, he was also an author and a staunch activist of several environmental and social causes, and LGBTQ+ rights. His autobiography ‘The Green Room’ also gained popularity where he shared his love for Goa, where he also shared the pain about the environmental condition of the state. He was also felicitated as the champion of minimalism on the fashion runway and his designs were worn by many personalities in India. 

It is also said that his funeral will be held on Thursday.
