The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has received over 1200 applications from various Ganesh Mandals across the city.

In a welcoming news, the civic body has also given them permission to set up pandals and celebrate the festival.

According to a report in the Free Press Journal, the state government held a meeting with the Ganesh Mandal Coordination Committee and decided to increase the height limit of the idol.

The BMC had asked them to submit an undertaking from the mandals that they will not install Ganesh idols more than four feet tall. After this, the BMC had removed the condition and allowed the applications.

Permission from BMC, other local bodies

From August 1, the BMC had started one window system to give speedy permissions to Ganesh mandals. There are 12,000 Ganesh Mandals in mumbai. Every year they have to take permission from BMC, traffic police and local police stations to set up pandals. This year, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde directed the civic body to introduce a one-window system to grant permissions in one go.

Apart from this, the civic body will make 300 artificial ponds. BMC is also taking steps for pruning of trees and filling of potholes on the roads.
