Mumbai - On the eve of Mahashivratri, devotees were seen flocking outside Babulnath temple in Girgaon. The popular temple was built in 1780. Thousands of devotees throng in the temple to seek blessings of Lord Shiva from Friday midnight.

Devotees were seen standing outside the Balrajeshwar temple, Mulund. They offered milk to the idol and celebrated the festival.

On Mahashivratri, devotees observe fast and stay awake all night chanting lord Shiva's name. It is believed that, on the day of Mahashivaratri, lord Shiva performed the ′Tandava′. There is another story to it. It is believed that Lord Shiva got married to goddess Parvati. On this day, devotees observe fast and offer fruits, flowers and bel leaves on Shiva Linga.
