The Mango Festival is organised every year by Sanskar Pratishthan and Kokan Vikas Pratishthan sponsored by Maharashtra State Agriculture Department. From Tuesday, May 2 to Sunday, May 14 from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, this year's Mango Festival will be held at Gaondevi Maidan in Thane.
MLA Sanjay Kelkar, president of Sanskar Pratishthan, informed in a press conference on Tuesday that this festival is being organised through the movement for the last 15 years so that the farmers get the price and the consumers get to taste good quality mangoes.
There will be a total of 45 stalls in the mango festival, out of which five stalls will be owned by women's self-help groups. In Konkan, mangoes are grown on an area of 1 lakh 80 thousand hectares. This year, due to unseasonal rain, cloudy weather and other natural calamities, mango production has decreased. 3.21 lakh metric tons in 2020, 2.56 lakh metric tons in 2021, 1.28 lakh metric tons in 2022 have been produced. This year too, only 20 percent of the mango crop has come. MLA Kelkar said that such a mango festival was organised to support the farmers.
MLA Sanjay Kelkar said that apart from physical sales, an online sales facility has been made available at the mango festival in Gaondevi Maidan. MLA Kelkar has appealed that people who want to buy mangoes can get in touch with Rajendra Tawde at 9869016092 and Dinesh Manjrekar at 9819097650.
