Dadar - For the first time ever, the Siddhi Vinayak temple authorities have decided not to allow offerings to the deity on occasion of Angarki Chaturthi on Tuesday.

Hundreds of devotees, from the city and outside, converge at the temple to offer prayers and offerings on this auspicious day. This year, citing security reasons, devotees are not being allowed to carry offerings inside the temple. They have been asked to deposit the offerings in bins specially appointed outside the temple premises, a move that has upset several of the devout.

However, some have taken the decision sportingly. “I welcome this decision as when we offer offerings to God, be it in the form of garland or flowers, it creates waste,” said Narayan Hirlekar, a devotee.

As this is the first Sankasthi Chaturthi of the year, police security has also been beefed up at Siddhivinayak temple. Many of the devotees also thanked the police for maintaining the security. “I am thankful to police who look after the security of devotees,” said another devotee, Sameer Gada.
