On behalf of the Thane Municipal Corporation, the Ganeshotsav Aaras competition has been organised for the public Ganeshotsav Mandal in the Thane Municipal Corporation area. Administrator and Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar has appealed to public bodies to participate in this competition.


The winning public mandals of the competition will be awarded the first prize of INR 10,000/-, 2nd prize INR 7,500/- and 3rd prize INR 6,500/- total eight prizes, mementos and citations will be awarded. Along with the aras competition, prizes will be awarded for 'Best Idol' and 'Cleanliness'.


Organisations desirous of participating in this competition as well as Ganeshotsav Mandals can get the application form at the Information and Public Relations Department, Mahapalika Bhavan, First Floor, Pachpakhadi, Thane (West) between 11:00 am to 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Last date for receipt of applications is September 8, 2023 and applications received after this deadline will not be accepted.

Terms and conditions for the competition

  • Mandals celebrating public Ganeshotsav till Anant Chaturdashi in Thane Municipal area can participate in this Aras competition. Organisation/Board must be registered with the Charity Commissioner (copy attached with application).

  • The board/organisation should incorporate eco-friendly elements in the decoration while organising Ganeshotsav. Judging will consider the purpose of the scene along with the artistry of the scene. Also preference will be given to performances by local artists. Appearances that show intolerance towards any religion will not be considered for the award

  • Special consideration will be given to matters related to cleanliness. Also, it will be necessary to broadcast information, boards, hoardings and messages about the activities published in public interest by the state government, Thane Municipal Corporation, Election Commission.

  • The appointment time for examination will be intimated to the institute in advance. Examiner will visit only once for examination. At that time the whole scene must be ready. The decision of the examiners will be final and binding on all

  • If there is an appearance audio, that audio will only be played for 10 minutes. If the summary of the appearance is in written form, the decision will be taken after reading it and it will be mandatory to film the video of the said appearance and give it in a pen drive. So that it will be convenient for the examiner to give marks by looking at the re-appearance while giving the judgement.

Municipal commissioner Abhijit Bangar has also mentioned that the terms and conditions determined for the participating boards in the public Ganeshotsav Aras tournament will remain applicable.
