Nightlife in Mumbai might soon become 'more happening' as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has permitted malls in Mumbai to serve food all night long. If all goes well, Worli MLA and Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray’s vision of the ‘24x7 Mumbai nightlife’ may soon come to life.

On Wednesday, the Yuva Sena chief held a meeting with BMC chief Praveen Pardeshi and Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve to discuss at length the plan to keep the eateries in malls open throughout the night.

According to an official, the decision to launch the project by allowing malls to serve food throughout the night was taken after the meeting.

The idea of 24x7 Mumbai nightlife was first brought to light by Thackeray in 2013 but it faced hindrance due to security concerns raised by the Mumbai Police. However, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray is now the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and therefore, this has made things easier for the Yuva Sena chief as the plan has received a headstart again.

To begin, the civic body will first recognize the malls that are situated away from residential areas. This is to avoid disturbing the residents during the night time. Later, the BMC plans to extend the project to individual eateries and restaurants.

However, an official said that the malls which will be allowed to run during the night won’t be permitted to serve or sell alcohol.
