India is famous for a lot of delicacies served in different parts of the country, especially street food. When it comes to finger-licking dishes, national capital Delhi tops the chart with a range of food offerings.

Serving the same here in Mumbai, talking everyone's taste buds on a tour is Delhi Highway, a restaurant in Saki Naka, which recently launched its new menu called Purani Dilli Ka Zayka.

It is said that if you take a stroll in the lanes of Purani Dilli, you will be mesmerized by the aura of the place, the fragrance of spices, the aroma of freshly prepared puri, halwa and a lot more. The capital is known to brings fond tasty tales along, especially in Purani Delhi where centuries-old establishments serve the most delicious food.  With an aim to offer a similar experience and take people on a trip to indulge in a platter full of delicacies is Delhi Highway. The new, updated menu includes street favourites such as Halwa Nagori, Bedmi Puri, Chole Bhature, Chole Kulche, and much more.

My experience of this Zaayka started the moment I stepped in Delhi Highway, where I was served with a chilled welcome drink. Soon after which, Delhi's popular Dahi Bhalla Papdi Chaat made its way to my table. For the ones who are unaware, Dahi Bhalla is a popular snack served in the national capital. Black lentil balls served over crispy puris, it is topped with curd and a variety of chutneys and toppings. This snack was served cold and perfect, and it legit took me seconds to finish.

It was about time for the main course, where a man in a desi attire brought a platter with dishes that are being served since generations. It had Bedmi Puri, Spicy Aloo, and Pumpin Sabzi. I was told that this is often served in Delhi during breakfast and lunch. Puffed crispy bread (puri) paired with spicy Aloo is a burst of flavours for the taste buds. The pumpkin sabzi was sweet but added the perfect balance. To experinece something different from the streets of Delhi, the chef served the popular Chole-Kulcha along with Raita and Tangy Pickle, and I couldn't resist myself but finish the entire plate.

By now I was full and highly impressed, but then they served my most favourite part of the meal - the desi desserts - Halwa Nagori Puri and Jalebi. I remember tasting this, many years back in Delhi, but this part of the course was nostalgic. This warm halwa made of semolina and saffron tasted heavenly with the puri. Crispy Jalebi just elevated the experience, so much so that I finished everything served in this plate too!

Well, I'm travelling to Delhi soon, and now I know what I need to taste, how and where. This experience of Delhi Highway's Purani Dilli Ka Zayka was highly impressive.

This special menu was officially launched in presence of many TV celebrities like Arshi Khan, Vindhya Tiwari, Tina Philip, Palak Purswani, Sharan and Pritam Singh; where these popular names participated in activities like Pani Puri competition, making a Laccha Parantha and other fun activities.

Talking about the same at the launch, Mukesh Kaushik, Owner of Delhi highway, said, "With Purani Dilli Ka Zaayka menu we want to bring old Delhi charm to Mumbai and celebrate the age-old stories of flavors from Dilli-6."

This special menu of Purani Dilli ka Zayka is served on Saturdays and Sundays between 8.30 am to 12.00 pm and 3.30 pm to 6.00 pm, at Delhi highway in Sakinaka, Andheri East.
