The second edition of Somaiya Football Championship, which was Maharastra’s First Baby League, concluded this Sunday, with Steadfast FC (IRSC) won the overall championship, along with the Under-8 Championship. The Under-10 Championship was won by Baichung Bhutia Football Schools, and the Under-12 Championship was won by Football School Of India.



The Championship was closely contested affair with only four points separating the teams in the top four. The Championship saw ten academies play against each other twice, across Under-8, Under-10, and Under-12 age categories. Each team played 18 matches over three months.

The Championship also the rise of new talented youngsters, such as Erwyn D’souza from Steadfast in Under-8, Ishaan Verma from Steadfast in Under-10 and Adriano Rodriguez from Football School Of India in Under-12.

Prashant Singh, Director of Sports at Somaiya said about the second season
and Baby League, “The day I heard about the Baby League concept a few months ago from Richard Hood (Head of Youth Development-AIFF), I was fully convinced that this is what was needed. We at Somaiya are proud to be one of the first ones in Maharashtra to implement this initiative adopted by the AIFF.”
