In the latest genome sequencing report, Omicron has replaced the Delta variant in COVID-19 cases reported in Mumbai, reports stated. In all the aggregate 237 samples tested at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) run Kasturba Gandhi Hospital, the highly transmissible variant was detected.

Additional Municipal Commissioner, Suresh Kakani was quoted in accounts elaborating on how taking into consideration that Omicron is less deadly in contrast to the Delta variants, it is a positive sign that it has completely replaced the earlier strain.

This according to him can be a sign of the flattening of the coronavirus pandemic curve. Kakani further added that they are anticipating that the number of daily cases will further dwindle.

Based on narratives, from the 237 patients whose samples were taken for the 10th genome sequencing, six had been administered their first jab and one had to be hospitalised. Of the 128 patients vaccinated with both jabs, seven had to be admitted to the hospital. From these, one needed hospitalization while another had to be admitted into the ICU.

Of the remaining 103 unvaccinated, 18 needed hospitalization while two were admitted to the hospital. The data of the tenth genome sequencing is in considerable contrast to the sixth genome sequencing wherein a mere two per cent of the sequenced samples highlighted the presence of Omicron

In the seventh genome sequencing, Omicron numbers increased to 55 per cent, while that of the eight genome sequencing were 89 per cent.
