Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) disease has claimed the lives of around eight people in Maharashtra so far. This rise in death toll was recorded after one fatality occurred in Mumbai.

It has come to light that at least three GBS patients have been detected in Mumbai. A 13-year-old girl, the youngest patient, has been admitted to the civic-run Nair Hospital.

However, Pune has the highest number of patients with this disease and the death toll has gone up to 7.

Nair Hospital Dean Dr. Shailesh Mohite told The Free Press Journal that a minor girl infected with the GBS virus has been admitted to the hospital. She is currently undergoing treatment and her condition is stable.

Meanwhile, recently the first GBS death occurred in Mumbai. "The patient was admitted to Nair Hospital on January 23. The patient died on February 10 at 11.10 pm. The deceased has been named Subhash Dete," said Dr. Mohite.

According to reports, Subhash Dete (53) was working as a ward boy at the municipal corporation-run V.N. Desai Hospital in Santacruz. He was put on a ventilator after being admitted to Nair Hospital, but he died of the virus.

As per reports, the first patient was recorded in Mumbai when a 64-year-old woman was diagnosed with GBS syndrome.
