Waterlogging has been a persistent problem for Mumbai residents and especially the slums of Dharavi are affected adversely. The stagnant water becomes a favorable habitat for mosquitos and also causes lethal diseases such as Dengue, Malaria and Leprosy.
Monsoons in Mumbai are soothing as they drench the entire city with the rains. However, the rains also increase the risks of infections and diseases among the people in Mumbai. With an aim to be prepared to counter the diseases, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Jaslok Hospital put up a collaborative effort to create awareness among the residents of Dharavi to tackle diseases during the monsoon by organising a free health camp at Dharavi.
By the means of the health camp, the doctors conducted an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) checkup as well as initiated a gastrointestinal health check-up under the guidance of Dr Om Srivastava. Along with this, a seminar was also conducted where the doctors interacted with the residents initiating a conversation about immunity.
