SHARES

The February spike in Maharashtra Metropolitan Region (MMR) has been a cause of concern. The civic body has swung into action and adopting various means to curb the spread and side by side planning on how to manage the surge.

Many Jumbo facilities that were earlier shut in a phased manner due to the decline in cases are now being reopened. The Navi Mumbai Municipal corporation (NMMC) has also restarted the testing centre at the APMC market.

APMC market is a wholesale market and a high footfall area. As many as 50,000 people including traders visit this market on a daily basis. Apart from screening all the people that are entering the market, provisions have been made to have a testing facility at the premise. This was available in 2020 as well but had been discontinued when the cases started to reduce.

Not only has the testing centre been restarted but even the testing drive has been intensified at places that have high footfalls such as the railway station.

Navi Mumbai reported 151 COVID-19 cases and 96 recoveries on Monday, March 1 talking the tally up to 55,550. While 53,063 people have made a complete recovery from this disease, no death has been reported and the death toll now stands at 1,120. At present 1,367 patients are undergoing treatment in Navi Mumbai. While the recovery rate is at 96 per cent.
