In the last two weeks, new coronavirus cases in Mumbai saw 18 per cent rise, reports stated. Meanwhile, Maharashtra registered a drop of 19 per cent in the COVID-19 cases.

Despite the graph being stable so far, the state COVID taskforce has sounded an alert for the next three months at least amid the festive season.

Explaining further Dr Shashank Joshi said that the second wave is receding from Maharashtra and there is stability in the Covid graph. Although a third wave does not seem as devastating as the second one at this point, but with new variants of COVID-19 are constantly emerging, it is necessary to be vigilant.

So far, only 11 districts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, have registered a rise in cases from September 29 to October 14.

Therefore, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) health department said they are anticipating a small spike post-Dussehra as more people step out for shopping and meeting friends and family.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 cases in the city continue to rise, and on Thursday, October 14, the number went over 500. Even the cases in MMR are showing a rising trend as their number almost touched 1,000.

As per the BMC report, 546 new cases were reported yesterday in Mumbai after 37,007 tests. It was the third highest single-day number in the past two weeks.

There was an increase in casualties as five deaths were recorded in the city. Of these, four had comorbidities. One death was below 40 years, while four deaths were above 60 years of age.

However, the official stated that the situation is under control as most of Mumbai’s population has taken at least one vaccine dose, and nearly half have taken both doses.

The weekly positivity rate of Maharashtra is 2.03%, with eight districts registering a higher rate. In districts like Sindhudurg, Pune, Nashik and Palghar the rate has spiked.

Furthermore, five districts reported over 80% of the COVID cases in the past week. Mumbai is currently adding one-fifth of the total active cases in Maharashtra at 29,555.
