On Friday, February 19, Bacchu Kadu, Maharashtra minister of state for water resources and education tested positive for the coronavirus for the second time.

According to reports, he had earlier tested positive for COVID-19 back in September last year. Moreover, he took to Twitter to inform, "I have been tested Covid positive for the second time. I am currently in isolation. Those who came in my contact get themselves tested,"

This comes a day after public health minister Rajesh Tope and water resources minister Jayant Patil tested positive. Earlier this month, state ministers Anil Deshmukh, Satej Patil and Rajendra Shingne also tested positive for COVID-19. So far, over 20 ministers of the Maharashtra government have tested positive since the outbreak of the coronavirus in March last year. However, all of them have recovered and resumed work.

Meanwhile, concerned over the increasing number of coronavirus cases, the administration in three districts of Maharashtra namely Amravati, Akola and Yavatmal, announced a 10-day lockdown after a sudden rise in cases were reported there. On the other hand, on Thursday, February 18, Maharashtra recorded 5,427 cases of the coronavirus taking the COVID-19 tally in the state to 20,81,520. The city of Mumbai continues to be a major novel coronavirus hotspot with 736 patients recorded in the day. At present, there are 40,858 active cases in the state. With 2,543 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered cases soared to 19,87,804.
