BMC launches 'Mission Zero' plan across six areas in Mumbai

The rapid action plan 'Mission Zero' will be implemented in areas like Andheri, Malad, Mulund, Dahisar, Borivali, and Kandivali where 50 mobile vans will be set up over the next two or three weeks to identify new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.

The number of coronavirus cases in Mumbai is increasing exponentially every day.  While some areas in Mumbai, which were earlier marked hotspots have seen a decrease in the number of cases, officials are now identifying new localities as hot spots for coronavirus. With an aim to contain the spread of coronavirus, the local municipality has now adopted a new action plan to prevent the spread. Title 'Mission zero,' this plan will be implemented immediately and was recently launched at the Andheri Sports Complex.

Mission zero will be implemented across six areas in Mumbai where 50 mobile vans will be set up over the next two or three weeks to identify new coronavirus cases. As a part of this plan, areas like Andheri, Malad, Mulund, Dahisar, Borivali, and Kandivali will be closely observed. Officials will inspect these areas over the next few weeks. 

Parts of North Mumbai, especially ward P-North has become one of the hotspots in the city and keeping this in mind, the BMC recently imposed a complete lockdown for one week. The new 'Mission zero' initiative will help control the spread of coronavirus. The initiative was launched as a part of public-private partnership, with BMC, local doctors, Melinda Gates Foundation and some NGOs. These entities have stepped forward to assist the municipal corporation with regards to containing the spread of COVID-19.

It is learned that these entities will provide mobile vans, medical facilities using which teams from the BMC will be able to carry out testing in an organised manner. The event was launched on Monday, June 22, at the Andheri Sports Complex and was attended by the additional Municipal commissioner Ashwini Bhide, some members of the BMC and other associations. 

Besides this, reports also state that the doubling rate of coronavirus in the city has improved and now stands at 36 Days. The new aim for The BMC officials is to reduce it even further to 50 days. 

As of Sunday, June 21, Maharashtra reported a total of 1,35,796 cases, with 6,283 deaths and 67,706 recoveries. Mumbai had  67,586 cases.
