According to the latest reports, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will commence the sixth serosurvey to comprehend the presence of the COVID-19 amongst its citizens. It has been reported that on Thursday, February 3, the final resolution on the sample size and age-wise selection of the participants will be done.

Previously, the civic authority had undertaken the decision to conduct the serosurvey amongst 10,000 people throughout 24 wards in the island city. However, owing to the third wave of the coronavirus, the process had to be delayed.

Based on accounts, Suresh Kakani, additional commissioner of the BMC elucidated on how since the third wave has flattened in Mumbai, they have decided to commence the serosurvey but are yet to decide the sample size and age group of the participants.

Kakani added that they have recommended three categories of the age group but a final decision is yet to be taken. Back in August 2021, the civic authority conducted the fifth serosurvey. During the fifth serosurvey, 86.64 per cent of the 8,674 people surveyed had antibodies against COVID-19.

This was considerably greater than the third survey conducted in March 2021 which found 36.3 per cent of those surveyed had antibodies against coronavirus.
