As 90 per cent of new cases arrive from non-slum areas, BMC’s R-North ward, which covers parts of Borivali and Dahisar, has issued fresh guidelines to housing societies and their staffers, including security guards and house-help. However, most of the guidelines are part of the COVID-19 safety norms.
During a webinar held on Saturday, March 13, the ward’s medical health official Dr Avinash Vayadande presented the guidelines which stated to avoid gatherings and visiting common areas like the gym and swimming pool. Moreover, the official also informed locals about the vaccination centres in the area during the webinar.
The citizens have been directed to follow COVID-related protocols like wearing a mask outside the house, sanitising the common areas and regularly washing hands, said Dr Vayadande.
Apart from that, security guards, domestic help and other staff should be tested regularly at the nearest BMC dispensary as they could be asymptomatic carriers of the novel coronavirus.
A civic official said that in the initial months of the pandemic, societies would strictly monitor those entering the premises with a thermal gun or check their SPO2 levels. But as now people have developed a lethargic attitude towards safety protocols, the guidelines have been issued officially.
At present, R-North has a growth rate of 0.31 per cent, almost close to the city’s overall growth rate of 0.37 per cent.
