Despite slow commencement, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has so far managed to inoculate nearly 1 lakh kids aged between 12-14 years of age with COVID-19 vaccines, a data by the public health department revealed.
According to reports, within 1 and a half months, the civic body has jabbed 99,554 beneficiaries with at least one dose, while 19,821 have taken both shots.
Civic officials said parents play an important role in boosting the numbers as they have started bringing their children for vaccination after exams got over.
In the past few days there have been an increase in the vaccination number of this group. Officials said that it could be possible that parents are taking them for vaccination as the exams have concluded. However, owing to this, the pace could again slow down as kids may go for vacation or visit their native, officials added. The BMC is expecting an increase in the beneficiaries’ turnout as everyone will be back in the city and schools and colleges will be open.
Moreover, not any major side effects have been observed due to vaccination among children. Civic officials also appeal parents to bring their kids to get them vaccinated.
For those unversed, the drive for this age group kicked off on March 16. Children from this age group are administered Corbevax with a 28-day gap between the two doses.
Meanwhile, 3,82,456 teenagers between 15-17 years of age have taken the first dose of the vaccine and 2,77,674 have taken both doses.
