BMC Warns Citizens Against Online Messages Offering Info on Vaccination Centres in their Buildings

The Brihanmumbai Municipal corporation (BMC) has urged citizens to be cautious about online messages being circulated about doorstep coronavirus vaccinations. 

The civic body added that messages on social media platforms for those looking for vaccination centres in buildings is fake. 

This is the third instance of the BMC marking a widely circulated message as fake in just a week, illustrating the struggles authorities face in curbing misinformation pertaining to COVID-19 and vaccinations.

“We request citizens to verify facts before heading to any centre. Only trust communication by official mediums,” the BMC said. 

The civic body previously had to contend with fake news about new lockdown guidelines on multiple online media platforms.

The agency clarified that the parking lot of Kohinoor square is being used to exclusively vaccinate those over the age of 45 as well as specially-abled citizens. 

The fake message shared online had information such as the time, location, and vaccine doses for people seeking vaccination centres in their buildings.
