Stock Market Highlights: Bull rally continues for sixth consecutive day, sensex jumps 617 points

The benchmark indices ended higher for the sixth consecutive day hitting fresh record highs led by Auto, Metal, Infra and IT stocks.

At close, the Sensex was up 617.14 points or 1.22 per cent at 51,348, and the Nifty was up 191.50 points or 1.28 per cent at 15,115.80. About 1689 shares have advanced, 1284 shares declined and 188 shares remain unchanged.

On the Nifty 50 index, M&M (7.27 per cent), Hindalco (6.25 per cent), Tata Motors (6.35 per cent), Shree Cements (4.86 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Britannia (-1.92 per cent), HUL (-1.45 per cent), Kotak Mahindra (-1.29 per cent) and Divis Labs (-1.06 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

On the sectoral front, except FMCG and Nifty PSU Bank, all other sectoral indices ended in the green. The Nifty Auto and Nifty Metal indices rose more than 3 per cent each.

The BSE Smallcap and Midcap indices rose 1.50 per cent each.

Author’s View: If the 15,000 level is sustained on Nifty we may see an upside movement till 15,250 -15,300. 14,900 will act as strong support for the index.
