Due to the growing pressure and hectic lifestyle, women in large numbers are suffering from lifestyle-related diseases. However, the most common problem witnessed in women is breast cancer or ovarian cancer. Women who cannot afford expensive treatment go to civic-run or government-run hospitals. But many times, there is no advanced cancer-related equipment in the said hospitals. However, sensing the need, Cama Hospital has come up with an advanced mammography technology.
In the last five years, due to changed lifestyle, women are witnessing many physical ailments. Amongst these, breast and ovarian cancer are the most commonly reported ones. Lack of awareness among women regarding these diseases is harming them,” Dr Rajashree Katke, MD, Cama Hospital.
Cama Hospital is said to be the first civic hospital which has the advanced mammography machine.
So far, 3000 women have done their tests on this machine, of which, 78 women were detected with the symptoms of breast cancer. The cost of this machine is ₹2 crores. Currently, Cama Hospital has two mammography machines.
Katke said that women who visit public hospitals often have economical constraints and belong to rural areas. Women mainly from the rural area have no knowledge of breast cancer, due to which, they lose their lives. When it comes to urban women, many have a habit of consuming cold drinks and smoking. Even these habits lead to cancer. She added that if the symptoms are not detected in an early stage, then in the next 4-5 years, cancer will increase by 60 per cent.
She further said that women are scared of mammography machines and hence, they don’t opt for it. The machine is of breast size and nothing to be scared of, said Katke.
