Mumbai city continues to see a spike in COVID-19 cases and is likely to hit the third wave of coronavirus by October. A 22-year old resident of Malad is the youngest patient battling with COVID19 in Seven Hills hospital, Andheri. She already has a preexisting heart condition making her more vulnerable and weak.

One of the major concerns for the city is that it has around two-thirds of patients in COVID-19 ICU who are unvaccinated. Seven Hills ICU has 68% of people who are not vaccinated of which 13,391 haven’t taken a single shot, according to the media reports. Seven Hills Hospital is said to have nearly the city’s third of the coronavirus load.

The family of the youngest patient who is battling with the virus isn’t vaccinated either which includes her 51-year old father, mother, and three siblings. One of her sisters told the media that they never even tried getting vaccinated either by registering on Co-Win or by visiting the centre.

The most worrisome numbers came from the analysis at the Nesco Jumbo facility which is in Goregoan. Since, March 2021 of 619 COVID-19 deaths, 93 per cent are unvaccinated patients.

However, claims have been made by Mumbai’s civic corporation that nearly 80% of the city’s population has taken at least one dose. “We have to try and take away vaccine hesitancy from every corner,” said Dr Rahul Pandit, member of the COVID19 task force while addressing the media.
