The complete shutdown has been imposed in Thane till Sunday owning to the number of coronavirus cases. On Wednesday the cases rose by 156 which included two corporators.

Vijay Singhal, the Chief of TMC stated intense monitoring is required to have an impact in the area. Three patients including a 76-year-old-woman and a 60-year-old man have died taking the death toll to 72.

Meanwhile, as many as 79 people, including a 15- month-old baby girl, tested positive for the infection in Navi Mumbai, as per reports. While coronavirus cases in Bhiwandi crossed the 100- mark, Thane Rural has recorded over 300 cases. According to reports, of the 6,690 cases in Thane district, 2,914 patients had recovered from the infection, while 207 persons had died. The district now has 3,569 active cases, it stated.

With the rise in coronavirus cases and people not adhering to the social distancing norms, jawans of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed in hot-spots of Thane, as per officials. RAF jawans carried out a flag march in Mumbra town, while some units were deployed in Lokmanya-Sawarkar Nagar, Wagle Estate and other areas, which have reported several cases. They have been deployed to ensure strict enforcement of the lockdown. According to a senior official, the RAF was a part of the Central Reserve Police Force and a company of 120 jawans has been deployed in Thane city for the time being.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray addressed the state on Sunday announcing that they have been mulling over the requests put forth by the various film associations to resume work in green zones. Not only the film industry-related activities but also the outdoor sports and related events are currently in the 'deciding stage'. Thackeray further added that the war against coronavirus must be intensified as economic relaxations begin in the state.
