Mumbai records over 1,000 new COVID-19 cases for second consecutive day

1,145 new COVID-19 cases were found in Mumbai taking the caseload up to 3,22,843 while five people have lost their lives.

Mumbai reported 1,145 new COVID-19 cases, 463 recoveries and five deaths on Thursday, February 25, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,22,843. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 8,997 active cases and 3,01,520 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,458 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 94 per cent. At present 32,08,685 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 13 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 126 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

On Thursday, February 25, Maharashtra recorded 8,702 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 21,29,821. Currently, there are 64,260 active cases in the state. With 3,744 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 20,12,367.

More than 56 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 51,993. While 2,05,745 persons are under home quarantine, 2,521 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 94.49 per cent, and 2.44 per cent respectively.

Meanwhile, India reported 16,577 new cases, 12,179 recoveries and 120 deaths taking the tally up to 1,10,63,491 on Thursday, February 25. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,07,50,680 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,56,825 in the country. At present, there are 1,55,986 active cases. So far, 1,34,72,643 healthcare and frontline workers have been vaccinated in the country.
