Mumbai Records 1,038 Fresh Covid-19 Cases, 64 New Deaths

The lockdown has been extended by July 31 in the adjoining areas of Mumbai due to surge in coronavirus cases.

Mumbai recorded 1,038 fresh Covid-19 cases on Sunday, taking the total tally of the city to 1,01,388. With 64 new deaths, the fatality toll has climbed up to 5,741. According to the data provided by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the number of active cases in Mumbai are at 23,697 and 71,685 patients have recovered from the deadly virus.

The slum areas of Dharavi reported 36 new coronavirus infected patients on Sunday. This comes a day after reporting just six cases in the area. The total tally in the densely populated slum has now reached 2,480. As per the BMC, Dharavi currently has 143 active cases and 2,088 patients have recovered. However, the civic body has stopped disclosing the death toll in the region. 

The number of coronavirus cases continue to surge in Thane district. On Sunday, 1,678 fresh Covid-19 cases were recorded in the district. The total tally of the region has now pushed to 67,605. With 22 new deaths, the death toll has reached 1,892 in the district. The lockdown has been extended till July 31 in areas which fall under the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), which include Covid-19 hotspots Mira-Bhayandar, Kalyan-Dombivali, and Bhiwandi-Nizampur. 

On Sunday, Ulhasnagar recorded 195 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally to 5,626 in the city. On the other hand, 79 patients tested positive in a single day in Badlapur, taking the Covid-19 tally to 1,913 with 29 deaths. Meanwhile, Ambernath saw 78 new cases, and the case count has now reached 3,108 along with 118 deaths in the region.

Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-hit state in the country. The state saw the biggest single-day jump in coronavirus cases on Sunday with 9,518 cases. The total tally in the state has now reached 3,10,455, along with 11,854 deaths so far.
