Maharashtra Records 8,348 Fresh Covid-19 Cases, State Crosses 3 Lakh Mark

While Mumbai crossed the 1 lakh mark, Thane district is nearing 66,000 cases and Pune is nearing 50,000 cases.

Maharashtra has crossed the 3 lakh coronavirus infected patients case mark. For the third day in a row, Maharashtra has recorded over 8,000 fresh coronavirus cases. The state witnessed 8,348 new cases on Saturday, taking the total tally update 3,00,937. There have been 144 deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the total death toll up to 11,596. 

Maharashtra's capital city Mumbai, has crossed the 1 lakh mark in coronavirus cases. The city witnessed 1,199 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, taking its total cases to 1,00,78. With 65 new deaths, the fatality toll has now reached 5,647 in the city. The slums of Dharavi reported six new coronavirus infected patients on Saturday and the cases now stand at 2,444 in the area, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corpopration (BMC). However, the civic body has stopped disclosing the death counts in the area, but has said that Dharavi only has 107 active cases. 

Thane district recorded 1,822 new coronavirus cases and the district has now reached a total of 65,927 cases. With 43 deaths, the death toll has increased to 1,870 in the district. The lockdown was lifted from Thane district on Saturday, and only areas which are major infection hotspots will be under a lockdown till July 31. The number of cases in Thane saw a sudden rise after easing the lockdown back in June. 

Pune has emerged as the new urban Covid-19 hotspot at the city and itsrura areas are nearing the 50,000 mark in coronavirus infections. However, as per media reports on July 17, the recovery rate in the area has gone up to 65 per cent, while the mortality rate has fallen to 2.65 per cent. A 10-day complete lockdown was imposed in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and rural parts of Pune since July 13. 

While Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-hit state in the country, the total number of recoveries in the state have reached 1,65,663. Out of this, over 5,000 recoveries were reported in the past 24 hours.
