With the vaccination drive being ongoing across the country, Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been making efforts to vaccinate the senior citizens from March 15, 2021.

Last year in the month of March, coronavirus hit the country and spread across the states. However, due to the remarkable action taken by the civic body in Dharavi, Worli, Malad and other areas, the instances of COVID-19 was brought under control.

In particular, Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal took various measures at different levels to control the coronavirus. These include COVID-19 centres with control room, tests, increasing hospital service facilities, surveys, crowd restrictions, restrictions imposed during Ganeshotsav, Navratri and Diwali.

Currently, the vaccination is in full swing in Mumbai and the remaining stages of vaccination will be undertaken after the frontline workers are vaccinated. As the risk of contracting COVID-19 is especially high among senior citizens, now senior citizens will be vaccinated around March 15. The state government is working for this, with the participation of the private and public sectors to eradicate the coronavirus.

Moreover, assistance will be sought from 46 private hospitals in Mumbai. Meanwhile, the number of citizens above 50 years of age is around 3 million. On the other hand, out of a population of 1 crore, 3 lakh citizens will be eligible for this till March 15.

Earlier on January 27, Maharashtra improved its COVID-19 vaccination numbers by 15 per cent as 41,470 people took the vaccination for the coronavirus on the seventh day of the first phase of the state-wide vaccination drive meant for people working in the health sector.
