Dharavi, Mahim registers 'zero' COVID-19 cases

With the number of COVID-19 cases steadily decreasing across Mumbai, zero case was reported in Mahim and Dharavi on Tuesday, February 2.

Last year the number of COVID-19 cases were rapidly increasing in the city. Mumbai’s largest slum colony Dharavi which was once COVID-19 hotspot has managed to get things in check. 

On Tuesday, February 2, zero cases were reported from Mahim and Dharavi. For Dharavi, this is the sixth such instance during the pandemic where 0 cases have been reported. Earlier, on December 25, January 22, January 26, January 27 and January 31 zero cases were reported in Dharavi.

Meanwhile, for the second time, Mahim reported zero COVID-19 cases. On the other hand, seven new cases were found in Dadar. On Sunday, January 31, Dadar reported zero COVID-19 cases. Earlier, Dadar reported zero cases on January 21 and January 27. At present, there are 117 active COVID-19 cases in Mahim while Dharavi has only 16 active COVID-19 cases.

G-North Ward, which includes Dharavi, Mahim and Dadar, was the worst-hit ward in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) limits out of the 24 administrative wards. According to BMC data, the ward has 14,545 cases, of which 12,780 have completely recovered. At present, there are 271 active COVID-19 cases in the ward.

Mumbai reported 334 new COVID-19 cases, 455 recoveries and seven deaths on Tuesday, February 2, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,09,631. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 5,528 active cases and 2,91,828 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,366 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 94 per cent. At present 28,29,156 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 182 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 2,085 buildings are sealed by the BMC.
